Serenitas

In a desolated monastery on an island, a solitary old monk leads a life of serenity and monotony. But his peace of mind is disrupted when it becomes clear he might not be so alone after all. My graduation film combines a classic psychological horror film inspired by the likes of Kubrick with a philosophical investigation of psychosis and belief. After a year of working on it almost by myself, the film was rewarded with multiple festival selections including Film Fest Gent, Leuven International Film Festival, Anima and the Ensors. It is a perfect example of my interest in 3D animation with hand-painted textures and a thick layer of Adobe After Effects on top, leading to a very graphical look. The sound was recorded and edited by Gillis Van Der Wee, who also made the music for the film together with me.
