Copycats

This class for the animation students at RITCS was an exploration of the use of charcoal through repetition and reproduction. After a group experimental warm-up exercise, each student was given an object that they had to draw multiple times. Then the whole class came back together, the drawings were placed one by one on an easel, and the other students were asked to copy their classmate’s drawing. Through a round of questions after each drawing, they were encouraged to look closely, discover new techniques, and learn from one another. Their own mastery was highlighted.
