The Sad Story of the Little Mouse Who Wanted to Become Somebody is a 28-minute narrative Virtual Reality experience about ambition and corporate greed that premiered at the Venice Film Festival. This collaboration with Atlas V and Reynard Films saw me supervising the 3D creation work, from the animatic/layout to the modeling and texturing, to the set dressing and lighting. We provided the base for the 3D and 2D animation teams and the sound designers to add their work to. I worked closely together with director Nicolas Bourniquel to explore the different scenes and point of views that worked best to tell the story, and to translate the concept art into a look that would be beautiful and performant in VR. Inspired by Film Noir lighting and impressionistic painting, we developed multiple techniques to generate various materials from a limited set of texture maps and to have real-time reflections in the experience. For now, this is the VR production I've been most fond and proud of.
